Chapter 8 What is Mental Power?
Su Nian boarded the spacecraft with a heavy heart. The moment he stepped into the cabin, a stream of air mixed with various smells hit him in the face. The space inside the spacecraft was not very spacious. The metallic luster on the cabin wall had been eroded by the years and became mottled and dim. The lights were dim and flickering, as if they would go out at any time.
Passengers were sitting or standing in various postures. Merchants dressed in gorgeous clothes sat in comfortable seats, the gemstone rings on their fingers flashing strangely under the dim light. They talked loudly, with pride and shrewdness in their voices: "I have invested a lot in this interstellar trade. As long as we can reach the destination smoothly, the profit will be unimaginably rich. The level of mental power is too important in business negotiations. Without strong mental power, how can you see through the other party's mind and seize the initiative?"
The mysterious explorer next to him had a serious look on his face, with strange equipment hanging all over his body. His eyes were deep and firm, as if they could penetrate the endless universe: "My goal this time is to explore the planet with mysterious ruins. It is said that there are ancient treasures there that can enhance mental strength. Only when the mental strength is strong enough can we survive the unknown dangers."
Some unidentified dangerous people gathered in a corner, talking in low voices. Their eyes swept over the people around them from time to time, full of vigilance and threats: "We must be careful in this operation. Don't let those guards with high-level mental powers find us, otherwise we will all be doomed."
Su Nian hugged her torn bag tightly and walked carefully through the narrow aisle, trying to find an inconspicuous corner. She looked out the window inadvertently, and saw the gray and lifeless appearance of the garbage star gradually disappearing. The garbage star was like a dim star forgotten in a corner of the universe, with pits on its surface and piles of garbage in a disgusting dark brown and black color, distributed in no regular pattern. As the spacecraft flew farther and farther, the garbage star became smaller and smaller in the vast universe, and finally turned into an almost imperceptible dot.
Su Nian withdrew his gaze, shrank into a corner, and listened to the discussion of mental power among the people around him.
"Have you heard? The new spiritual power training method released by the Interstellar Alliance is said to double the training speed."
"Is this true? Doesn't that mean that more people will break through the bottleneck of their mental power level?"
"That's right. However, the market for Horcruxes has become even more popular because of this. After all, at critical moments, Horcruxes can protect the core of spiritual power and avoid serious damage."
"Hey, it would be great if I could have a top-level Horcrux. Maybe I could use it to break through to A-level mental power."
"Don't dream. How can you dream of a top-level Horcrux? Even a primary Horcrux is very expensive."
Su Nian couldn't help but whisper to the person next to him: "Excuse me, what is mental power?"
The man looked at her like she was a monster and laughed loudly, "Haha, you don't even know this? What crack in the rock did you jump out of? Mental power is the key to survival in this universe. It allows you to sense the surrounding environment, manipulate objects, and even give the enemy a fatal blow in battle."
When the people around heard this, they looked at him with contempt and talked about him in a buzzing manner.
"What a bumpkin. Coming from a garbage planet, he really doesn't know anything."
"In a place like a garbage planet, it's good enough to be alive. How can you expect to understand spiritual power?"
Su Nian's face turned red instantly. She lowered her head and hugged her torn bag tightly, wishing she could find a crack in the ground to crawl into.
At this time, the guard who was driving the spaceship came over, looked Su Nian up and down with ill intentions, and said, "Little girl, you came from that poor place, it is your blessing to be on our spaceship. On this spaceship, you have to choose one of us to be your husband, so that you can live a good life in the future."
Su Nian's eyes widened in horror, and she quickly waved her hand to refuse: "I'm only a teenager, and I don't plan to get married."
The guards laughed, their expressions becoming more and more vulgar: "Why can't you get married as a teenager? You have a defective gene, and you can't have offspring. You're lucky to have a man who wants you."
Su Nian bit her lip and said stubbornly, "I can work and earn money to pay you back in the future. As long as we go to other planets, there will be plenty of opportunities to make money."
The guards laughed even more brazenly when they heard this: "Making money? Do you think it's that easy? Don't be naive. You want to ride our spaceship for free without paying anything? No way! As usual, just sleep with each of us, and this matter will be over."
The passengers around looked at the scene indifferently. Some turned their heads away and pretended not to see it; others showed indifferent expressions, as if such scenes were already commonplace.
Su Nian's face turned pale and he shook his head repeatedly: "No, absolutely not!"
The guards kept asking, "Why not?"
Su Nian's mind raced, and she pretended to be sad. Her voice trembled as she said, "I'm sick, that kind of sickness."
The guards looked at her suspiciously. "What's wrong with you? Don't try to fool us!"
Su Nian pretended to be desperate, tears welling up in her eyes: "There are so many viruses on the garbage planet, and they are all men, how can I hide from them. You dare to touch me with such a dirty disease?"
When the guards heard this, they showed disgust on their faces and took a few steps back. One of the guards cursed and said, "It's really bad luck, it's our bad luck!"
Su Nian secretly breathed a sigh of relief and continued to shrink in the corner. But she knew in her heart that this was only a temporary relief, and the road ahead was still full of unknowns and difficulties.
The spaceship continued to sail in the universe, and the stars around it flickered with mysterious light. Su Nian looked out the window, with a lot of thoughts in her mind. She thought of Lin Xiaofei who was still on the garbage planet, and wondered how he was doing now and whether he could take care of himself. Thinking of this, her eyes were wet again.
After a while, an alarm suddenly sounded on the spaceship, and the entire cabin fell into chaos.
"what happened?"
"It seems like we encountered an interstellar storm!"
"Oh my God, what should I do?"
The passengers were panicking and running around. Su Nian was also frightened by this sudden change and didn't know what to do.
At this moment, the spaceship suddenly shook, and Su Nian lost her balance and fell to the ground. Her head hit the seat next to her, and she felt a sharp pain.
"Don't panic, stay calm!" The captain's voice came through the radio, but it did not calm everyone down.
Su Nian struggled to get up and hugged his torn bag again, his heart filled with fear.
The spacecraft struggled forward in the interstellar storm, like a lone leaf swaying in the wind and waves. After a thrilling struggle, the spacecraft finally gradually got rid of the influence of the storm and returned to stability.
However, the accident damaged some of the spacecraft's equipment and required urgent repairs.
"Everyone stay at your seats and don't move. The maintenance personnel are repairing the ship." The captain issued instructions again.
Su Nian sat in the corner, her body trembling slightly, not knowing what danger she would encounter next.
