Chapter 157 Do You Miss Me?

Chu Lian looked back to see if there was anyone around, and after making sure that no one was around, she slipped out of the house, strode towards the garage, took out the car keys from her pocket, and drove out without telling anyone where she was going.

She continued driving, leaving all the vehicles behind her, and headed straight for the suburbs, causing many rural women to look up from their work and watch a luxury car driving through the bumpy roads that had been unattended for years, and frown as they watched the black luxury car pass by their doorsteps and head towards the old house that had been abandoned for many years.

"Who's that?" a woman asked, holding up a jar filled with water from the well.

The other woman rolled her eyes at the nosy woman. "Why do you care? She's not here for you. You better get home and start cooking before your husband gets drunk in the middle of the street again."

Just as the woman finished speaking, a drunk's voice came from the house across the well. "Damn woman! I've worked hard all day, and she can't even make a hot meal when I get home. Where is she?"

The woman holding the jar full of water jumped up and rushed to her home. As soon as she entered the house, she heard the sound of someone being beaten.

The other woman, ignoring the screams of the beaten woman, looked around and also caught up with the car that was heading towards the abandoned house.

"Ma'am!" Chu Lian got out of the car after it stopped. The woman walked towards her quickly, wiping her hands on her apron. "You're here. It's great that you're here."

Chu Lian raised his eyebrows, looked at the woman and asked, "What happened to little Anna?"

The woman named Xiao Anna nodded, and then carefully scanned several houses not far from the abandoned house. "That person has not eaten anything in the past few days. If this continues... I'm afraid he will starve to death."

"Starving?" Chu Lian narrowed her eyes and motioned Anna to open the door of the abandoned house. After the door was pushed open, she walked in. She took a look at the dirty environment around her, her nose wrinkled, and took out a handkerchief to cover her nose to avoid the disgusting smell that might drift to her. Anna picked up a flashlight from the cabinet next to her and walked in front of Chu Lian, who was looking around with disgust. Why shouldn't she?

Before she became Mrs. Song, this was her house, shabby, dilapidated, and ugly. Returning here was like seeing her past self struggling to live every day, not starving, not dying without being noticed by others, and if it weren't for that man, she would never have returned here.

The two walked down the stairs to the basement. The further they went, the stronger the smell of blood, sweat, and excrement became. Chu Lian felt like she was going to vomit. She glanced at Anna and said sternly, "Didn't I tell you to keep this place clean? Why is it dirtier than before? What am I paying you for?"

Anna's face turned awkward and she coughed. "It's not like I don't clean here, but ma'am, I can't come here every day. If I do, people will start to get suspicious of me and I have to keep a low profile. After all, I almost got caught a few weeks ago. My husband, he asked me what I was doing here and I had to make up a million excuses before he let me go."

Seeing Chu Lian didn't speak, Anna breathed a sigh of relief. Indeed, she was trying to avoid suspicion, but Chu Lian rarely saw that man, so instead of worrying about that man, she might as well use the money she earned easily to do something good for her son.

When they reached the bottom of the basement, Anna took out another key, unlocked the big iron lock on the wooden door, and pushed the door open. When the door opened, a man came into view, his legs were tied to an iron bar, the iron chain was very thick, and the chain was so strong that it could not be broken.

When the door was pushed open, the man inside raised his head and looked at the person who came in, with a sneer on his face. "Miss Chu, you are here again."

His voice was hoarse from lack of water, but the deep cello-like flavor was still there, making Chu Lian's skin glow. Although she copied this man perfectly, it was real after all. Even with his messy beard and hair, dirty skin and limbs, he had an imperial temperament, and even dressed as a prisoner, he still exuded charm and personality.

"Yes, I'm here." She strode towards the man in her high heels, stood in front of him and looked down at him. Although it was she who stood in front of him arrogantly, Chu Lian still felt that she was a little too small in front of him. "Does Brother Song miss me?"
