Chapter 50: A huge gap
The nurse changed the IV bottle and turned to leave, and the door of the ward slowly closed.
The huge hospital was filled with the pungent smell of disinfectant.
"drink water?"
Wen Baijing's voice calmed down and his attitude became much gentler, like a completely different person from before.
The ward fell into silence, and each other's breathing seemed particularly clear.
A few hours ago, they were still immersed in the sweetness of love. But at this moment, there was an invisible wall between them. The occasional quarrels between other couples were just to add interest, but the disputes and conflicts between them seemed to be just Ye Zhenzhen's temper, but in fact, it was an insurmountable gap.
Ye Zhenzhen's face was as pale as paper, she lay quietly on the hospital bed, still holding back a grudge in her heart. She was used to ignoring people when she was angry, to express her dissatisfaction and stubbornness.
Wen Baijing sighed, slowly stood up, and walked to the window with heavy steps. He stood quietly by the window, bathing in the warm afternoon sun. The charming light fell on him, highlighting his extraordinary demeanor.
"Zhenzhen, do you still remember? I took you to the hospital when you fainted. You were more seriously ill then." Wen Baijing folded his arms and paused for a moment. "But you are still as stubborn as you were then. I always wonder how stubborn you can be, even though you look so weak."
He shook his head helplessly and let out a dull sigh.
Ye Zhenzhen's excitement subsided a little. She understood her own paranoia and her pitiful self-esteem that could not be exchanged for small change. In this unequal relationship, only her self-esteem could prevent her from being too humble.
Wen Baijing turned around, walked slowly to the bedside, bent down, and smoothed Ye Zhenzhen's messy hair.
"Do you still remember? When you fainted, you said to me: Can I not leave you?"
Ye Zhenzhen was at a loss, and tried desperately to recall, but could not remember when she had said this.
She responded weakly, "I don't remember."
Wen Baijing stroked her face, "But I remember, Zhenzhen, I remember."
Ye Zhenzhen closed her eyes, feeling a sharp pain in her heart. Cinderella's dream of meeting a prince was just a fantasy. When she met him in real life, she was left with only fear and helplessness. She was afraid that after waking up from the dream, she would not be able to accept the huge gap.
The most frightening thing about a good dream is waking up.
"Mr. Wen, I can't reach you... I can't reach you... I was so excited about making 8,000 yuan last month that I couldn't sleep..." Ye Zhenzhen covered her face, tears silently wetting her palms.
Wen Baijing took her hand away, gently wiped away her tears, and said in a leisurely tone: "Ye Zhenzhen, it's not shameful to make money with your own hands. I'm very pleased to know that you are making progress and working hard. It means that I didn't misjudge you at the beginning."
Ye Zhenzhen's eyes were red. She was serious and hardworking at work, but how many times would she have to win five million to catch up with the gap between them? She didn't have the confidence to fall in love with such a person because the result was obvious.
"Mr. Wen, I really appreciate you. You can't give me what I want, and I don't have what you need. How about we just be friends again?"
Wen Baijing stroked Ye Zhenzhen's face, his hand paused for a few seconds, "Ye Zhenzhen, I don't agree!"
The cell phone kept ringing, and Ye Zhenzhen raised her hand to touch the phone beside her pillow.
"Ye Zhenzhen, what's wrong with you? Why didn't you come to work? Today is the 11th, the store is going to be crazy busy!"
The store manager sounded extremely anxious, and there was a noisy voice on the other end of the line.
Ye Zhenzhen's eyes widened, she was so focused on arguing with Wen Baijing that she completely forgot about going to work.
"I'm sorry, Manager. I'm in the hospital..."
She kept explaining and apologizing. The store was extremely busy today and she had to neglect her work because of personal matters.
"Ah? Are you sick? You should have informed me in advance..." The store manager was a little surprised.
"I'm sorry, I'll try to get back to work after the IV..."
"That's not necessary. Just focus on seeing the doctor today and bring your medical records to work tomorrow!"
The store manager hung up the phone in frustration.
Ye Zhenzhen held her phone tightly in frustration. Today, there were a lot of customers. She had wasted the opportunity to boost sales and missed a golden opportunity. She didn't know if she could still achieve the sales target this month. Thinking of this, she couldn't help but sigh.
"What's wrong?" Wen Baijing asked in confusion.
"Mr. Wen, I missed a great sales opportunity..." Ye Zhenzhen stared at him without blinking, "I feel sad for making a few hundred dollars less, but you can't understand the troubles of ordinary people like us. This is the gap."
"I understand you, but you still have me, right?" Wen Baijing said seriously, his voice gentle, "Your health is more important than anything else."
Ye Zhenzhen's eyes were instantly filled with tears, and her vision gradually blurred. The last time she fainted, Wen Baijing sent her to the hospital and said the same thing. At that time, they had just met and were not familiar with each other, and Wen Baijing also stayed by her side waiting for her to wake up.
"Don't cry..." Wen Baijing wiped her tears carefully.
"Don't be too nice to me, I'm scared." Ye Zhenzhen said in a trembling voice.
"What are you afraid of?"
Ye Zhenzhen kept silent. Habit is a terrible thing. Getting used to someone's kindness, getting used to certain companionship, and then one day someone takes it back, how can you adapt to the sudden loss?
"Do you want to take a nap? The doctor said that you haven't been sleeping well recently and you are very weak. You need more rest." There was a hint of tenderness in Wen Baijing's eyes.
Ye Zhenzhen shook her head slightly and pursed her lips. She looked up at the IV bottle and saw that it was still half full! It would take at least forty minutes.
My bladder is about to explode!
Her face flushed red as she kept struggling in her mind: should she go to the bathroom or not? What should she say? Her right hand was getting an injection and she was wearing jeans today.
"Do you want to go to the bathroom?" Wen Baijing asked in a low voice.
Ye Zhenzhen blinked and said nothing.
Wen Baijing slowly helped her up and brought her shoes to put on. Ye Zhenzhen was a little flattered. This was the first time someone had put shoes on her, except for when her mother had worn them for her when she was a child.
Wen Baijing took the IV bottle and carefully helped her into the bathroom.
"You go out." Ye Zhenzhen urged Wen Baijing to leave softly.
Wen Baijing helped her unbutton her clothes and walked out of the bathroom.
Ye Zhenzhen turned on the faucet and then solved the problem with peace of mind.
"You're still shy in front of me."
"I don't!"
Ye Zhenzhen walked out of the bathroom holding the IV bottle and slowly walked towards the bed.
Wen Baijing stood at the door, shaking his head and sighing helplessly.
"Ye Zhenzhen! Don't move!"
She was frightened by the sudden sound and stood there in a daze.
Soon the nurse came and asked, "How could a person this old have a missing needle?"
The bright red blood flowed back into the IV bottle, dyeing the saline solution a light pomegranate color.
"Ye Zhenzhen, why are you so stubborn?"
Wen Baijing looked at her with a serious expression and glared at her.
