Chapter 38 Dusk and Rain
The loud noise swept through the room, and the echo lingered for a long time.
The sound almost scared Ye Zhenzhen to death. The surging waves submerged her. She stood there in a daze, her mind in a state of confusion.
The waterfall cascaded down, and the one drowned rat became two.
The man quickly calmed down, squatted down and kept groping at the water pipe in the corner, and the waterfall suddenly stopped.
Ye Zhenzhen's hair was stuck to her face and her body was soaked with water. The remaining water poured down from the corners of her clothes like a rainstorm.
The man took off his glasses, wiped the water off his face, wrung out the water droplets on the hem of his T-shirt, and was about to wipe the lenses with the corner of his clothes.
Ye Zhenzhen wiped the stream off her face with her palm. She suddenly recognized the man, the man who mistakenly thought she was going to jump into the river.
Ye Zhenzhen took out a dry towel and handed it to the man. He took the towel, wiped his glasses carefully, and then put them on.
The white cotton nightgown was wet and wrapped tightly around her body, outlining her exquisite figure, exuding a springy aura.
The man stared at Ye Zhenzhen, his cheeks flushed instantly, all the way to his ears. He swallowed nervously, his throat rolling unconsciously, and when he realized that he had lost his composure, he quickly turned his head away.
Ye Zhenzhen looked down at her chest, her face suddenly flushed. She quickly ran out of the bathroom and grabbed a piece of clothing from the closet and wrapped it around her.
The man walked out of the bathroom, "Do you need my help cleaning up?"
Ye Zhenzhen wrapped her clothes tightly, her scalp tense, her eyes unfocused, and she trembled as she said, "No thanks! Thank you."
The floor of the room was covered with half a centimeter of water. Walking on it felt like walking on the waves.
The man looked around, went to the balcony to get a broom, bent down to sweep the water, and said, "I'll help you sweep the water into the bathroom."
"No..." Ye Zhenzhen didn't have time to stop him and swallowed her words back, "Just go back after you finish sweeping the water! I can mop the floor myself."
The wet pajamas stuck to her body, and her coat was soaked through by them. She was eager to change her clothes, but the man was here, and she had no place to change clothes.
She stood there, praying in her heart that the man would leave quickly.
The water flowed down the man's hair and onto his face. He raised his shoulders to wipe off the water drops on his face.
The water in the room was swept to the bathroom little by little by the broom. The man lowered his head and swept the water without distraction, gradually approaching Ye Zhenzhen.
She wrapped her clothes tightly around her and carefully retreated to the wall.
The water droplets slid down her smooth skin, and the man caught a glimpse of a pair of long legs.
He retracted his peripheral vision and put down the broom, "The water is almost swept away, you can mop the floor yourself!"
The man cleared his throat and bent over to open the toolbox.
"Wipe your face!" Ye Zhenzhen felt bad and handed him a dry towel. "This is new and has never been used."
The man hesitated for a moment, then took the towel and asked, "Do you live here?"
Ye Zhenzhen nodded, "Well, why are you here?"
The man was wearing a white shirt and khaki casual pants. He looked gentle and refined, not like a repairman.
"My uncle called me and said that the tenant's water pipe burst and asked me to come over to help." The man replied while drying his hair.
Ye Zhenzhen was a little embarrassed. She had just fixed the toilet, and now the water pipe burst again. It was such a coincidence that it seemed like she had done it on purpose.
"Thank you. I don't know why the water pipe broke suddenly."
"It's okay, the pipes are old." The man laughed, "Nothing you buy can last a lifetime, it's normal."
The man handed her the towel and said, "I'm going to buy some pipes. You can't use the bathroom without new pipes."
Ye Zhenzhen took the towel and took the opportunity when the man went downstairs to buy water pipes to change out of her wet pajamas and put on a T-shirt and jeans.
After changing her clothes in a hurry, she finally relaxed.
Outside the window, the dusk grew thicker, and the blue-gray gradually turned into black.
The smell of grilled lamb kebabs wafts into the balcony, and the aroma of cumin fills the nostrils.
In the bathroom, under the dim light, a man holding a wrench bent over to replace the water pipe.
The man was busy and focused, he looked like a bookish person and at this moment he turned into a repairman.
Ye Zhenzhen leaned sideways and gently wiped her wet hair with a towel. She slowly walked to the bathroom door and leaned against the door frame.
The warm light shone on Ye Zhenzhen's face, and her thick long eyelashes fluttered slightly, like a butterfly resting on a green leaf. Her eyes stopped on the floor, and many fragments flashed through her mind.
"Okay!" The man stood up and brushed the dust off his hands.
He turned on the faucet and checked the pipes to see if there was any sign of water seepage or leakage.
The sound of rushing water brought Ye Zhenzhen back to her senses, "Please!"
"It's okay." The man smiled gently: "Can you add WeChat?"
Ye Zhenzhen's smile froze on her face, and her eyes flickered. They met twice, and each time was awkward. Ye Zhenzhen was soaked twice in a row.
Seeing her embarrassed look.
The man raised his hand to touch his head, his eyes gradually darkened, and he smiled faintly: "It's okay, it's okay."
The request to add WeChat is not excessive. After all, the man is indirectly helping her. Disagreeing seems unkind. It's just adding WeChat. There's no need to act cool.
Ye Zhenzhen was about to go to the bedside table to get her cell phone. Just as she turned around, she heard rustling footsteps outside the door.
A red-haired woman poked her head out of the door. "Oh! Did the water pipe burst? I heard the sound of water rushing..."
Ye Zhenzhen nodded, "Yes, it has been repaired."
The man bent down to pick up the toolbox, nodded at Ye Zhenzhen with a faint smile, and strode towards the door.
The red-haired woman moved aside to make room and asked, "Is this the landlord's son? I think I've seen him in this building..."
The man looked a little lonely as he turned and left. There was a sigh in the corridor, which seemed helpless and lost.
Ye Zhenzhen grabbed her cell phone and walked quickly toward the door. Her half-dry hair swayed slightly and the corners of her clothes swayed with her steps.
"Wait a minute!"
At the stairs, the lights were dim. The man stopped and slowly turned his head. His eyes gradually became clear.
A gentle smile appeared on the man's stern face.
The setting sun spreads a ten-mile glow, the distant mountains are dark blue, and the nearby water is misty.
Ye Zhenzhen was collecting the clothes that were drying on the balcony. She walked back to the room carrying the dry clothes. There was only a large men's T-shirt left on the balcony, swaying in the wind.
Ye Mao and Wang You were clearing the table and putting the food they brought from home onto plates.
"Sister, you really don't want to find a boyfriend?" Ye Mao looked up at the dress on the balcony. "It would be good to have someone to take care of you. If anything breaks at home, someone will fix it. Besides, the people living here are very diverse, there are all kinds of people."
Ye Zhenzhen lowered her head to fold clothes without saying a word. After a moment, she held the folded clothes and opened the closet door.
The oil-paper umbrella fell down and hit her forehead squarely. She raised her hand to cover her forehead, which was a little painful.
"Sister, are you okay?" Wang You came over and tilted his head to check Ye Zhenzhen's forehead.
Her smooth white forehead was hit hard, leaving a conspicuous red mark. She rubbed her forehead and said, "It's okay."
At the dinner table, the three of them chatted idly.
"Sister, tell me the truth, have you offended someone?" Ye Mao lit a cigarette.
