Chapter 36 Copying Books
Lily looked at Snape nervously and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that. I don't know why the feather exploded."
Snape wiped his face and said nonchalantly: "It's okay, you probably acted like this because you don't have a wand. It's hard for a little wizard to control magic without a wand. I'll lend you my wand."
Hearing this, Lily's eyes lit up and she carefully took Snape's wand.
She waved her wand gently, and the next second the sofa in the living room exploded.
Lily's eyes widened with fear, and she explained nervously
"I didn't mean to do that. I just wanted to make the scarf on the sofa float."
"It's okay. It's probably because you are not used to this wand. If you have a wand of your own in the future, there shouldn't be such a problem."
Snape took the wand from Lily and cast a spell on the sofa.
"Recover as before."
Ten seconds passed and the sofa was still cracked, with no reaction at all.
Snape felt that this was not right, so he used a recovery spell on the sofa again, but the sofa still did not respond.
Lily said nervously, "If the sofa can't be repaired, you won't ask me to pay for it, right?"
She didn't have much pocket money, not enough to pay the compensation.
"You don't have to pay."
Snape said something to comfort him, and went forward to check it out. He found that this sofa was actually a product of alchemy. No wonder the magic could not be restored.
"We don't need to learn spells today. Let's learn to recognize potion ingredients first."
He took out a herb encyclopedia from the bookshelf and handed it to Lily, saying gently, "First, memorize the characteristics of the herbs in the book. I will teach you how to make potions later."
Lily swallowed nervously as she looked at the book that was thicker than her fist.
“Do I have to memorize all this?”
"Remember the characteristics of these herbs first so that you won't make the wrong materials when operating. If you don't understand anything, you can ask me and I can answer them for you." Snape said seriously.
In his previous life, those little trolls messed up so many of his potion materials, but Lily was different, she would never make such low-level mistakes.
Snape had no idea that the book he showed Lily was more than ten times thicker than in his previous life.
Lily took the book and began to read it carefully. She was curious about everything in the magical world and soon immersed herself in the book.
Looking at Lily holding the book seriously, Snape looked at her tenderly.
Feeling the gaze, Lily raised her head immediately. Snape in front of her was reading a book seriously and didn't even look at her.
Could it be that she made a mistake?
Lily was puzzled.
In the yard, Jiang Li poured black powder along the cobblestone path and placed a bucket of fireworks at the end.
"Do you want to watch the fireworks?" Jiang Li asked.
"Yes!" Penny said without hesitation.
"Then you will light this firework barrel."
Jiang Li handed the lit incense in his hand to Penny.
Penny took it nervously, carefully touching the burning area to the black powder.
The moment the powder met the open flame, it instantly burned and quickly burned to the fire line. The fire line instantly ignited and quickly burned the inner wall of the fireworks barrel.
Penny held her breath nervously. The next second, flowers flew out of the firework barrel, and the fireworks exploded, forming brilliant sparks in the air.
"boom!boom!boom!"
The noise outside was so loud that everyone inside heard it.
Although Lily was still reading the book, her eyes kept glancing outwards.
"Sev, why don't we go out and see what they are doing?" Lily looked at Snape and pleaded.
Snape looked into those beautiful green eyes and was unable to say no.
"Okay, but you have to come back and study potions after you finish reading."
After getting permission, Lily ran out happily.
Then I saw Jiang Li and Penny lighting fireworks in the yard.
Jiang Li explained to Penny the reason why fireworks have different colors.
"The reason why fireworks have so many colors is that different substances are added to gunpowder. For example, sodium silicate is added to yellow fireworks. When sodium is heated, the electrons in the sodium are excited and jump from a low energy state to a high energy state. Then, when the electrons fall back to the ground state, they emit photons, showing the yellow light we are familiar with..."
As she spoke, she took out the powder, mixed it together, and let Penny try it.
Lily watched curiously from the side, and saw that the powder lit by Penny emitted a beautiful yellow light, and she was instantly unable to walk.
Snape thought Lily would go out for a while and would be back soon, but when he finished three cups of tea and Lily still didn't come back, he became a little restless.
He walked out and saw Jiang Li playing with fire in the yard with Penny and Lily.
The fire emitted different colors.
Both girls looked at Jiang Li with amazement.
"Actually, this is very simple. Different elements will emit different colors when burned."
Jiang Li pretended to be serious and said: "Next I will ask a question, and those who answer it successfully can get my reward."
Petunia and Lily immediately pricked up their ears in earnest.
"What element emits green flames when burning?"
"I know! It's the boron element in boric acid!"
“It’s the element boron!”
Petunia and Lily answered at the same time.
Jiang Li made a distressed expression on his face and said, "I didn't expect that you all got the answer right at the same time. It seems that I have to give out two rewards this time."
She pretended to be reluctant and took out two peaches from her arms and handed them to Lily and Petunia.
"You two clever girls are going to take away all my fruits."
Both Petunia and Lily were amused by her and became more interested in the lessons she was telling.
"Lily."
Snape watched for a while and finally spoke up to break the happy atmosphere in the yard.
Lily's smile froze before she remembered that she hadn't read the book yet.
She walked up to Snape under Petunia's slightly sympathetic gaze.
"Lily, didn't you say you would only come out for a while?" Snape asked, looking into her eyes.
"I forgot." Lily said embarrassedly.
"Okay, which page have you read? Let me check it first." Snape said seriously, unconsciously putting himself into the state of being in class.
Lily suddenly felt that Snape was like the school's strict dean, and became very nervous.
"I've read page 20."
Hearing this, Snape turned to the first few pages of the potion book and began to ask Lily about the names and characteristics of certain potion ingredients.
Lily only remembered part of it and was quite nervous, so she stumbled over her answers.
Snape was a little dissatisfied, looking at Lily and said: "You didn't read it carefully, you should have written down everything you read."
Lily lowered her head obediently after being scolded.
"Okay, read those again. If you make mistakes again, you will be detained by me... When you go home, copy the contents of the book 10 times and hand it in to me tomorrow."
Snape almost said the wrong thing and turned back abruptly.
Copying books is every child's nightmare. Lily's face turned serious.
She was reading the book seriously, and occasionally heard Penny's exclamation from outside, and she was still envious.
If she had known, she would not have studied with Snape.
