Chapter 29 Another girl comes, I don't know how long she can last
Su Nian stood at the payment counter, her palms full of sweat, her eyes revealing a hint of nervousness and determination. After taking a deep breath, she trembled and paid the loan from the light computer. The accommodation fee for one semester was 20 credit points. As the money was transferred out, she seemed to hear the trembling in her heart. Adding the miscellaneous fees, the total amount paid was 25 credit points.
After paying the fees, her fingers seemed frozen as she slowly and tremblingly opened the computer to check the balance. When she saw the remaining 5 credit points, her throat seemed to be choked by something and she couldn't speak for a long time.
"You must study hard. In this world, you can only gain a foothold by relying on your own abilities." She told herself over and over again in her heart, and her eyes gradually became firm. This is a world where the strong are kings. If you rely on others, you will never be able to control your own destiny. You can only be an appendage at the mercy of others, and your status may be lost at any time.
She lowered her head and hurried towards the dormitory. Along the way, she was surrounded by curious and inquiring eyes from boys. Some of those eyes were fiery, some were curious, and some carried a hint of contempt, as if she was an alien from another planet.
She learned that the world had a serious imbalance in the ratio of men to women.
"On average, 150 boys are born for every girl. If this continues, the human race will really become extinct." Su Nian was secretly shocked, and beads of sweat appeared on her forehead unconsciously. She couldn't help but speed up her pace, wanting to escape from the gazes that made her feel uneasy.
Fortunately, the technology in this world is advanced, and people have basically extended their lifespan to 200 years through genetic modification and cultivation, which gives them enough time to reproduce. But even so, the scarcity of women is still a serious problem.
Su Nian could hear the boys' discussions from time to time.
"Look, that's the new girl. She's dressed so shabbily." A harsh voice came into her ears, with obvious sarcasm.
"It's really strange that another girl comes. I wonder how long she can last." Another voice said sarcastically.
She told herself that she must not be defeated by these voices and must not let others look down on her.
She made her way through groups of noisy boys, some of whom were playing together in groups of three or five, some of whom were talking loudly about their dreams of interstellar adventures, and some of whom were secretly eyeing her.
Su Nian's dormitory was in a remote dormitory building. Because there were few girls, the girls' dormitory was arranged in a relatively quiet area. Along the way, the campus scenery was picturesque, with lush trees on both sides of the road, and the breeze rustled the leaves. But Su Nian had no intention of appreciating it, her mind was all on the dormitory she was about to arrive at.
Finally, she arrived at the dormitory building. This was the lowest-end dormitory building in the school. There were higher-end and better-equipped dormitory buildings ahead, which were all equipped with smart devices and even robot butlers. But those were expensive, so she chose this one without hesitation.
The building looked plain and simple. Although it was not as luxurious as a high-end dormitory building, it was still quite clean. She walked into the elevator and pressed the button for her floor. She was the only one in the elevator, and the quiet atmosphere allowed her to clearly hear her own heartbeat and breathing.
With a "ding" sound, the elevator door opened, Su Nian walked out of the elevator and quickly found her dormitory room. She took a deep breath and pushed open the door. The layout inside was simple but practical, with a single bed, a desk, and a wardrobe. This was her little world.
Su Nian put down the bag in her hand, sat on the bed, and breathed a sigh of relief. The room was filled with a faint smell of disinfectant, and the shouts of students on the playground in the distance came from the window.
"From now on, this is my new starting point. I must work hard to change my destiny." Her eyes were full of firmness and determination, as if burning with a flame that would never go out.
