Chapter 11 Don't be afraid, it will be fine
After Su Nian knocked on the door, after a while, there was a sound of dragging footsteps from inside the door, and then the door slowly opened a crack. An old man with gray hair and a tired face poked his head out from the crack of the door and looked Su Nian up and down.
"What...is the matter?" the old man asked in a hoarse voice.
Su Nian quickly gestured to indicate that he wanted to seek help. The old man hesitated for a moment, but still opened the door and let Su Nian in.
Walking into the rescue station, Su Nian found that the environment here was not much better than the rescue station on the garbage planet. The hall was dimly lit and filled with a damp and moldy smell. There were some shabby beds randomly placed on the ground, and several haggard people were lying on them, some old and some young, but there was no woman.
In the corner, several disabled people huddled together, talking in low voices, and occasionally looked at Su Nian with vigilance. Sitting against the wall were several skinny old men, their eyes dull, as if they had lost all hope in life.
Su Nian walked carefully, fearing to attract other people's attention. At this time, a middle-aged man came over, his eyes swept over Su Nian, revealing an unusual curiosity.
"Are you new here?" the man asked.
Su Nian didn't dare to say anything, just nodded.
The man continued, "Here, don't run around and don't meddle in other people's business."
After saying that, he turned around and left.
Su Nian found a corner to sit down, thinking about what to do next. At this time, several more people walked into the rescue station, and they were making loud noises, making the originally quiet rescue station even noisier.
"I couldn't find anything to eat today. Life is unbearable!" complained a bearded man.
"Who says it's not true? I heard that the situation outside is becoming more and more chaotic." Another tall and thin man echoed.
Su Nian listened to their conversation silently, feeling increasingly heavy in his heart.
At this time, the person in charge of the rescue station came out. He was a burly man with a long scar on his face.
"Be quiet!" he shouted. "There are new people here today, behave yourself!"
The crowd then quieted down a little.
The person in charge walked up to Su Nian, looked her up and down, and said, "If you want to have a meal here, you have to work."
Su Nian nodded quickly to show that he was willing.
The person in charge continued, “Go outside with the others to look for supplies tomorrow morning. If you can’t find any, don’t come back.”
Su Nian's heart tightened, but she had no choice but to agree.
At night, Su Nian lay on the shabby bed, unable to fall asleep for a long time. She thought about her experience and didn't know what the future would be like. Suddenly, she heard sobbing next to her.
Su Nian turned her head and saw a little boy hiding under the quilt crying.
She patted the little boy gently, and he raised his head and looked at her with tearful eyes.
"I'm scared." said the little boy.
Su Nian comforted her: "Don't be afraid, it will be fine."
The little boy told Su Nian that his parents were both gone and that he was often bullied in this shelter.
Su Nian looked at the little boy with pity and decided to take care of him in the future.
The next morning, before dawn, Su Nian was woken up and set out with a group of people to look for supplies.
They walked along the dilapidated streets, surrounded by desolate land. Occasionally they saw some abandoned shops, but they had been emptied long ago.
"Everyone, split up and search. If you find anything, shout." said the team leader.
Su Nian walked into an alley alone, and suddenly, she heard footsteps.
She hid in the corner nervously and saw two men arguing.
"I discovered this first!"
"Whoever grabs it belongs to whoever grabs it!"
They were fighting over a piece of moldy bread.
Su Nian looked at this scene, her heart filled with sadness.
She continued walking forward and finally found some worn-out clothes and a bottle of water in an abandoned warehouse.
Just as she was about to leave, she suddenly heard shouting from outside.
"Oh no! Robbers are coming!"
Su Nian's heart instantly rose to her throat. She hugged the things she found tightly, not knowing what to do.
At this time, the people at the rescue station gathered together and prepared to resist the robbers' attack.
A fierce conflict broke out, and Su Nian hid in the corner, trembling with fear.
Fortunately, the people at the rescue station eventually drove away the robbers, but several people were injured.
Su Nian followed everyone back to the rescue station, exhausted.
Just when she thought she could take a break, a strange man came up to her. The man's eyes stayed on her bloated figure for a moment, and suddenly, his eyes became sharp and cunning.
"Little girl, stop pretending. I can tell you are a girl." said the man.
Su Nian shook her head in horror, her heart instantly rising to her throat. She wrapped her clothes tightly around her body, trying to hide better.
The man was relentless. He took a step forward and stared into her eyes. "With your figure and movements, there is no way you can hide it from me. Come with me. I can give you a better life."
Su Nian's body trembled slightly, his hands tightly grasped the corners of his clothes, and he refused in a trembling voice: "No, I won't go with you."
Just then, the person in charge came over and drove the man away.
"Don't have any bad ideas here." The person in charge said to Su Nian.
Su Nian looked at the person in charge gratefully, his heart filled with gratitude.
As the days passed, Su Nian struggled to survive in the rescue station. She faced various dangers and difficulties every day, but she never gave up hope and kept looking for a chance to leave this planet...
